I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of three. It was more difficult for my parents than me because I was so young and they had to learn how to take care of me with the diagnosis of me having type 1 diabetes. I honestly count the diagnosis as a blessing because I have taken my health more seriously than I would have done if I had not had to worry about the things I eat and taking insulin to help me stay alive. It has been a challenge, but I am so thankful for the medical advancements I have been able to experience over the course of my life thus far. I have been on an insulin pump now for the last 28.5 years and am using the Medtronic 780G pump and the Guardian 4 sensor. I have been a T1D for the past 53 years. I do believe diabetes can be managed so individuals can live a full and long life. However, it is a decision that requires perseverance and dedication.
