The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is thrilled to present the 23rd annual Kiss a Pig Gala in Northwest Arkansas on October 4 at the Rogers Convention Center beginning at 5:00 p.m. This black-tie event honors the role pigs played in diabetes treatment. All proceeds from the gala support the ADA’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

Each year, industry leaders unite to celebrate the candidates who have been raising funds throughout the year for diabetes research. This year, eight candidates are running a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign and the top fundraisers for each category earn the privilege of kissing a pig at the event.

Approximately 345,600 adults in Arkansas have diagnosed diabetes. Every year, an estimated 21,000 adults in Arkansas are diagnosed with diabetes.

“In Arkansas alone, about 13% of the adult population is living with diagnosed diabetes. While we’ve seen tremendous progress in diabetes care and research over the decades, the fight to end this disease, which impacts so many of our loved ones, continues today," said Pam Gaik, chair of the ADA’s community leadership board and executive vice president of the Walmart and Sam’s Club Team at Market Performance Group. "I am so excited to welcome our candidates and community members to join us in not only celebrating and supporting the ADA’s mission, but also the important role of animals, including pigs, in the diabetes community, which made treatment possible for people living with type 1 diabetes.

The gala includes a live and silent auction. This year’s event is made possible by presenting sponsors, Walmart and Abbott Nutrition.
