The ADA’s Education Recognition Program certification ensures quality diabetes education and support for people living with diabetes.
Today, the American Diabetes Association® (ADA)—a leading organization committed to fighting to end diabetes—announced the recognition of DiaServ’s diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES) service by the ADA’s Education Recognition Program (ERP).
The ADA’s ERP certificate assures that educational services meet the National Standards for DSMES. The corresponding intervention provided is evidence-based and outcome-driven. Services apply for recognition voluntarily, and ADA-ERP recognition lasts for four years.
Diabetes affects approximately one in nine adults worldwide. In Saudi Arabia, about 23% of the adult population is living with diabetes—one of the highest rates of diabetes globally. Robust public health strategies, including early diagnosis, effective management, and lifestyle interventions, are important for the 5.3 million people living with diabetes in Saudi Arabia.
"When people living with diabetes are equipped and supported in managing their health, they can feel better and live better,” said Charles “Chuck” Henderson, the ADA’s chief executive officer. “We applaud DiaServ for being the first in a country outside the USA to bring the best of DSMES by providing outcome-driven, value-based intervention.”
DSMES improves A1C (a way to estimate blood glucose levels), blood pressure, and cholesterol, as well as drives higher rates of medication adherence. It leads to fewer complications, a healthier lifestyle, and increased use of primary care and preventive services. DSMES decreases health care costs, including fewer hospital admissions and readmissions, while enhancing self-confidence to manage diabetes.
Mohammed Alharbi, MD, CEO of DiaServ, and his team are dedicated to the mission of “Optimum Diabetes Care for Better Life” for individuals with diabetes in Saudi Arabia. “The goal is to standardize clinical diabetes care for people with diabetes by providing patient-centered, evidence-based interventions that contribute to improvement in the Kingdom’s population health outcomes,” said Dr. Alharbi.
