On September 13, the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is hosting its flagship fundraising event of the year at the PNC Park Riverwalk to raise awareness and provide critical support for those affected by diabetes. Step Out®: Pittsburgh will bring together the diabetes community, volunteers, and advocates for a walk for people of all ages and abilities.
Approximately 1,183,000 adults in Pennsylvania, or 10% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Every year, an estimated 91,000 adults in Pennsylvania are diagnosed with diabetes.

The walk benefits diabetes research, education, management, and prevention, supporting the ADA’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Increasingly, this includes those living with obesity, as the Obesity Association, a division of the ADA, expands outreach and education.

“Every step we take brings us closer to our vision of a life free of diabetes and all its burdens. Events like our Step Out Walk not only bring our community together for an incredible cause, but help us in funding diabetes research and ADA programs,” said Chelsea Musial, executive director of the ADA in Western Pennsylvania. “We are proud to be the largest ADA Step Out Walk in the country, and we're excited to be back at PNC Park.”

The excitement will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a morning filled with engaging activities and education for  all attendees, including representation from many community partners and sponsors.

“I am thrilled to serve as the executive chair of the Step Out Walk: Pittsburgh as we bring together the diabetes community. GNC is all about ‘Live Well,’ and it means so much to us at GNC to ensure all people live well, and to help support Americans touched by diabetes lead their healthiest lives,” said Michael Costello, CEO of GNC and the 2025 Step Out: Pittsburgh executive chair.

The Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly and Company Alliance noted, “We are proud to support the American Diabetes Association’s Step Out Walk: Pittsburgh. We look forward to the impact attendees can make by improving early detection and diagnosis of diabetes and related conditions, including cardiovascular and chronic kidney disease, and helping those at risk live healthier lives.”

Step Out: Pittsburgh is a free family-friendly event. Hosted inside PNC Park at the Riverwalk, participants have access to experience the beauty of the baseball stadium alongside face painting, balloon artists, live music, and more.

Diabetes isn't just a disease—it's an epidemic—with over 38 million Americans living with it and its devastating consequences. Events like this are crucial to raise awareness and provide resources to support those living with diabetes.

This year’s Step Out Walk is sponsored by Novo Nordisk, GNC Live Well Foundation, and the Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly and Company Alliance. Registration for the event is free. To learn more about the 2025 Step Out: Pittsburgh and register, visit /StepOutPittsburgh.
