On November 8, the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is hosting its flagship fundraising event of the year at the Philadelphia Navy Yard to raise awareness and provide critical support for those affected by diabetes. Step Out® Walk: Philadelphia will bring together the diabetes community, volunteers, and advocates for a walk for people of all ages and abilities.
The walk benefits diabetes research, education, management, and prevention, supporting the ADA’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Increasingly, this includes those living with obesity, as the Obesity Association™, a division of the ADA, expands outreach and education.
"In Pennsylvania, nearly 1 in every 10 residents is affected by diabetes, a condition that not only impacts individuals, but also places a strain on families, health care systems, and employers. We must come together as a community to raise awareness, promote healthier lifestyles, and provide the necessary resources for prevention and management. Step Out Walk is a place for our community to celebrate our impact as we strive towards these goals, ensuring that all residents have access to the tools they need to live healthier, more fulfilling lives," said Kate Kosarek, the ADA’s executive director in Greater Philadelphia. “We are grateful for everyone involved taking the initiative to make an impact.”
The festivities will begin with music from Philly’s R&B station, 100.3 RnB, a wellness village, a kids games and activities station, as well as an opening ceremony to celebrate those coming together to walk for better health, a cure, and a brighter future. The community is invited to participate in a morning filled with engaging activities for everyone, wear red ADA gear, and bring banners and signs to show support for the cause.
Diabetes isn't just a disease—it's an epidemic. Over 38 million Americans are living with diabetes and its devastating consequences. Events like this are crucial to raise awareness and provide resources to support those living with diabetes.
This year’s Step Out Walk is sponsored by Sanofi, Novo Nordisk, Merck, The Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly and Company Alliance, and Independence Blue Cross.
The Boehringer Ingelheim and Eli Lilly and Company Alliance stated, “We are proud to support the American Diabetes Association’s Step Out® Walk: Philadelphia. We look forward to the impact attendees can make by improving early detection and diagnosis of diabetes and related conditions, including cardiovascular and chronic kidney disease, and helping those at risk live healthier lives.”
Registration for the event is free. To learn more about the walk and register, visit /StepOutPhilly.
