On November 15, the American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is hosting its flagship fundraising event of the year at the Water Works in Buffalo Bayou Park to raise awareness and provide critical support for those affected by diabetes. Step Out®: Houston will bring together the diabetes community, volunteers, and advocates for a walk for people of all ages and abilities.

The walk benefits diabetes research, education, management, and prevention, supporting the ADA’s mission to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Increasingly, this includes those living with obesity, as the Obesity Association, a division of the ADA, expands outreach and education.

“Step Out: Houston is more than a walk—it’s a movement. It’s a powerful reminder that when our community comes together, we can drive change, raise critical funds, and support the over 38 million Americans living with diabetes. Whether you’re personally affected or simply want to learn more, we invite you to join us. Even if you’re not currently involved with the ADA, come see what we’re about—because nearly one in two Americans is impacted by diabetes or prediabetes. Together, we can raise awareness, build connections, and create a healthier future for all. Thank you to our community partners, Lilly, Vortex Companies, and UnitedHealthcare for your support,” said Shataria Greene, the ADA’s executive director in South Central Texas.

The festivities will begin with music, a kids zone, and a wellness village, leading into an opening ceremony to celebrate those coming together to walk for better health, a cure, and a brighter future. The community is invited to participate in a morning filled with engaging activities for everyone, wear red ADA gear, and bring banners and signs to show support for the cause.

Step Out Walk will also provide valuable diabetes resources and experts on-site to provide advice on diabetes management and prevention for attendees.

Diabetes isn't just a disease—it's an epidemic and millions of Americans are living with its devastating consequences. Events like this are crucial to raise awareness and provide resources to support those living with diabetes.

This year’s Step Out Walk is sponsored by Novo Nordisk, Vortex, and UnitedHealthcare. Registration for the event is free. To learn more about the 2025 Step Out: Houston and register, visit /StepOutHouston.
