ADA Camp: A Lifelong Connection

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) has been providing support and unforgettable experiences to children living with diabetes through our camps and family retreats since 1949. Each year, we host thousands of campers and their families across the country, offering a unique blend of adventure, education, mentorship, and fun. For 2026, the ADA is excited to expand our camp program to adults living with diabetes.

New for 2026! Camp Carolina Trails Adult Weekend is an engaging and supportive overnight experience designed specifically for adults living with diabetes. This weekend retreat offers a welcoming environment where adults can connect, relax, and enjoy a variety of fun activities.  

Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a range of activities including boating, challenge courses, cooking classes, archery, hiking, and engage in meaningful conversations with others who truly understand the unique journey of managing their diabetes.

  • Shared cabin: Up to 10 adults and shared bathrooms adjacent to the cabin, with separate male/female cabins and bathrooms.
  • Double occupancy room: Shared hotel-style room with one queen bed and one twin bed. Buddy requests are available.
  • Single occupancy room: Single hotel-style room with a private bathroom.

Tyler Lehman is a camp director living in California. A California native, Tyler graduated with a degree in recreation and parks management from Sacramento State. She has over 15 years of experience in camping and out-of-school programs, including Disney Cruise Lines, a family camp near Yosemite National Park with the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department, and the YMCA in Washington, DC, and Southwest Florida. Tyler's passions include long-distance running, hiking, and traveling.

Note: Not all positions are available at each camp. You can find specific roles for your camp when applications open. The safety of our campers is our number one priority. All volunteers, staff and medical personnel must complete an application, interview, and background check before being hired. Must be 18 years or older to apply. 

ADA Camps Frequently Asked Questions

There will be multiple camp-type activities to choose from for all skill levels, including boating, hiking, archery, challenge courses, cooking classes, and campfire activities.

We will host informal Q&A sessions, which are optional to participate in. There will also be nutritional and cooking sessions available.

Ages 18 and up are welcome. We will also have staff on-site that will be supporting an active older adult group of people ages 65 and up.

If you place a buddy request, we will do our best to match you with the person you select. If you do not submit a buddy request, we will place you with someone of similar age/gender who has complementary interests.

The beds are bunk bed-style, but we will only be using the lower bunks for sleeping during the weekend.

Make sure to note them as part of your registration form and we will make sure the team and the kitchen can accommodate.
