Panelists to Discuss Diabetes, Obesity, and the Cost of Care
The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is proud to host its first State of Diabetes: New Jersey on World Diabetes Day, November 14, at Orchard Park by David Burke in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
"At the American Diabetes Association, we recognize that empowering both individuals and organizations is critical in the fight to end diabetes and obesity, especially as the rising cost of care becomes a growing concern. This program brings together leaders, advocates, health professionals, and employers to share strategies that not only improve health outcomes, but also address the financial burden of chronic diseases,” said Megan Lucas, the ADA’s executive director in Greater New York and New Jersey. “By working together, we can foster healthier environments, reduce health care costs, and support people in taking charge of their health, ultimately mitigating the impact of obesity and diabetes on businesses and communities alike.”
In New Jersey, approximately 746,400 adults, or 10.2% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Each year, an estimated 43,000 adults in New Jersey are diagnosed. The annual State of Diabetes event serves as a pivotal gathering, uniting employers, industry leaders, health care providers, and community experts. On a shared platform, professionals engage with an expert panel in critical discussions on how to leverage ADA resources to address the contemporary landscape of diabetes and the financial impact on employers and employees. A networking breakfast is followed by a panel discussion by experts in the diabetes field.

Over 38 million Americans are living with diabetes, and with health care costs at an all-time high, people with diagnosed diabetes have on average 2.6 times higher medical expenditures than those without. This year’s esteemed panelists will share their expert perspectives on diabetes, obesity and the cost of care.
