Cycling event raises funds to support diabetes research, local programming, and advocacy efforts
The American Diabetes Association® (ADA) is thrilled to host the 2025 Tour de Cure®: Chicagoland at Pottawatomie Park in St. Charles on August 9. This cycling event raises funds so the ADA can fight for all people living with diabetes—one of the fastest growing chronic diseases in the world.
Nationwide, over 38 million people have diabetes, and every 26 seconds, someone new is diagnosed. Approximately 1,209,717 adults in Illinois, or 10.8% of the adult population, have diagnosed diabetes. Every year, an estimated 76,000 of adults in Illinois are diagnosed with diabetes.
“At the American Diabetes Association, we believe that engaging our communities is essential in the fight to end diabetes. The Tour de Cure is a great example of the incredible impact our community can have on the ADA’s vision of a life free of diabetes and all its burdens. We are so proud to ride alongside hundreds of passionate riders, our dedicated volunteers and generous sponsors like Abbott and Wintrust, who believe that every mile brings us closer to a world without diabetes, and that together, we can inspire hope and change lives,” said Megyn Byrnes, the ADA’s executive director in the Illinois market.
Tour de Cure is an opportunity for individuals, corporations, and organizations to come together to help the ADA increase awareness, provide vital programs, fund lifesaving research, and work toward a cure.
In addition to the ride, participants are invited to enjoy:
- Wellness village and diabetes resources
- Kids’ Zone, including facepainting, balloon animals, games, and more
- Food trucks and a beer garden
- Music and entertainment
- Celebration of the ADA’s mission
Americans with diabetes have medical expenses approximately 2.6 times higher than those without and can develop serious health complications. Events such as Tour de Cure are crucial for raising awareness and providing resources to support those living with diabetes.
